My family and I went to Emley’s Cemetery in Imlaystown to pursue our hobby of ‘graving.’ While we were there taking photos of the different stones I remembered a question from many years ago. “If you write your own epitaph, what would it say?” Think about it for a minute. Now answer this: “If your children write your epitaph, what will it say?”
Wow, that’s a bit chilling for me. I know what I’d like people to know about me. But with my kids, I really don’t know what they would write. I wonder if they would remember all the crafts we did together or the movies we watched. Will they think of the family jokes or all the silly things we laughed about. There were school projects and trips to school. Will they remember the toys I made them from scratch? When it comes right down to it, our kids are all that matter.
No matter where you stand with your kids there is good news— your children are still growing and you can change things now. The bad news is that you cannot start over; you’ve got to start from today. Today is day one. It’s all in how you think about it. One… two… three… GO!
