Have you looked back to see if there was anything remaining in your or the kids’ summer bucket lists? Think about it quickly because Labor Day is almost here. Next you get swamped by school projects and Halloween costumes. Before you know it you are overrun by the big three: Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa!
But for right now, think of the one activity the kids wanted to do or see that you haven’t been able to do just yet. Maybe it was seeing a horse race or the underground mine museum in Ogdensburg. Was it whale-watching at Cape May, the free art museum in Princeton or the zoo? Ahhh, so much to do, so little time… Get the kids involved in the decision and the planning. It is also appropriate to enlist the kids’ help in completing chores and summer assignments prior to lift-off.
The time is also right for chores: cleaning out closets and drawers, gathering unwanted toys and games to donate to charity. Try to make chores fun and punctuate the end of the duties with homemade ice-pops or surprise treat. Beginning school with everything clean, neat and tidy feels just as good to the kids as parents!
